FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: How many worship services do you have?
A: We currently have one worship service: every Sunday at 9:30am. We also offer Bible Institute classes each Wednesday at 12:00pm and 7:00pm.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: While we believe that God deserves our best, even in our attire, there is no dress code at St. John's.
Q: How do I join St. John's Congregational Church?
A: There is a point in every worship service where an Invitation to Discipleship is extended. During this time, God speaks to a person's heart, and it is then that the person leaves his/her seat and walks towards the altar. For unsaved people, this is a step towards accepting Christ as their personal savior. For the saved, unchurched people, this is a step towards reuniting with the church. A member of the Philip Ministry will escort the individual to a private room for brief counseling. Individuals receive pertinent information regarding our biblically based principles, on becoming a Christian, the various ministries, and they are also given New Members Orientation and Baptism schedules. Once you have placed your trust in Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will be contacted by the New Members Education Ministry to register in an Orientation Class. Classes are held in the evenings and all classes are held at the church.
Q: What are the privileges of membership?
A: As a member of St. John’s Congregational Church, you are privileged to join and serve in various ministries. Also, you have a staff ready to address your needs and to offer services provided by the church.
Q: I've recently moved. How can I let the church know?
A: Notification of any changes in a member's contact information (address, phone numbers, e-mail address) or any other information, such as changes in marital status, children, or business information, should be directed to the main church office. Please call 413 734-2283, ext. 10 and speak to the receptionist who will take your information.
Q: How do I join a ministry?
A: First, you must complete New Member Orientation. You may then join a ministry by:
- Attending a meeting,
- Contacting the ministry leader via phone or email, or
- Contacting the church office staff for more information. Certain ministries have orientations and other requirements.
Q: How do I let the church know when someone is ill and needs prayer?
A: If you need to report that a member, friend or family member is sick or hospitalized, you should contact the church office at (413) 734-2283, ext 10. Please be prepared to provide the person's name, location (hospital, nursing home, etc.), and additional relevant information. The Diaconate will be notified and the person will be added to the church’s prayer list.
Q: My relative has passed away. How can the church assist me in this time of bereavement?
A: If you need to report a deceased member, friend, or family member, you should contact the church office. The Diaconate, under the leadership of the Senior Pastor, will assist, if needed, with funeral arrangements for the deceased.
