Camp St. John's is looking for talented, responsible and hard-working individuals who love children and will help bring the vision for camp each year to life! 

Current Employment Opportunities at CSJ: 

General Camp Counselor - Responsible for planning, leading, and implementing programs and experiences for children in a small group setting.  They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. (40-hours/wk for 8-wks) 

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Help implement a weekly schedule for your camp group according to weekly themes and schedule provided. 
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week.
  • Assist Arts Counselors during performing arts time and small groups
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Ensure that all camp sites used are kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
  • Communicate with Camp Leadership regarding camper experiences. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbooks, and daily attendance.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas.  This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Help guide Junior Counselors and Camp Volunteers.

Voice Teacher(s) - Responsible for assisting in teaching and coaching campers with there songs and ensuring maximum, age-appropriate vocal prowess. Voice teachers should be prepared to train for life and not for the show alone. (6-hours/wk for 8-wks)

Speciality Counselors (Music, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts) - Responsible for guiding, assisting and training campers to prepare for the production in their perspective field. Arts Counselors meet daily to discuss progress on training campers in their selected art field and progress on the production. Arts Counselors assist with props, set design, costumes, etc. Arts Counselors should be very creative and think outside the box. Arts counselors also assume the same duties as a General Camp Counselor. (40-hours/wk for 8-wks) 

Junior Counselors - At CSJ, we offer opportunities for Junior Counselors at age 17 to help them gain work experience. Upon a successful year as a Junior Counselor, individuals may be considered to be full fledge counselors when they turn 18. 

Volunteers - Volunteers are essential to the everyday operation of Camp St. John's. Volunteers help us at CSJ during our 1-hour, 30 minute lunch time to serve the children as well as on an as needed basis.

Volunteers and employees are required to attend orientations held by Camp St. John's Leadership and be trained in First Aid & CPR prior to the camp season. As requirements to maintain our camp license with the Springfield Department of Public Health, we are required to check all references listed and all employees must submit up-to-date immunization records.
